Amanda Agostino “The social butterfly”

1. Tell us a little about yourself

I’m 27 years old,  Radiation Therapist (I treat cancer patients with radiation at the VA hospital), amateur baker & cook, part time blogger, party planner,  I laugh at pretty much anything & I’ve been a CrossFitter for a year now…I feel like I’m writing an online dating profile right now!

2. Tell us your CrossFit story ( where were you before RCFBC and where are you now?)

Before RCFBC I did nothing. I went on the treadmill here and there, but nothing consistent. I’ve been overweight my whole life, but it all came to a head while I was on vacation the month before I joined RCFBC. I saw some pictures of myself and I was completely disgusted. I had been driving by the building everyday & kept trying to get enough courage to actually drive in the parking lot. Finally, when I got back from vacation I talked one of my friends into going to onramp with me. I was hooked instantly…and incredibly intimidated. I saw all these awesome people throwing weights around, and I felt out of place. But a few months in, I felt at home & like I was meant to do this. There was and still are days that I think to myself “your body isn’t made to move like that” but then I just take a deep breath and think to myself- I can do this. I never thought I would be excited about a workout or upset about missing one. I’m so thankful everyday that I decided to stay even when things got tough. I’m down about 50lbs & more inches than I can count, but my favorite part of CrossFit, is the confidence I’ve gained.  I’m starting to feel comfortable in my own skin!

3. What does being part of RCFBC community mean to you?

The RCFBC community is something special. It’s hard to really describe- you just feel safe with them. I wasn’t much of an extrovert before I started CrossFit, and now I’m the one who is planning the parties for everyone to get together outside of the box! I’ve made friends that I can’t really imagine my life without- I know it sounds weird, but I consider these people an extension of my family. They’ve been with me through accomplishments, failures, tears, blood, sweat, and most importantly laughs. We are such a diverse group of people, and outside the box, I don’t know that I would have encountered a lot of these awesome folks, but I thank God every single day that I have such amazing people in my life.  Cue the tears…haha. But seriously, love these people more and more everyday- and I love having the newer members join into our awesome, albeit slightly dysfunctional home!

 4. What accomplishments are you most proud of?

I’m proud/ slightly in awe that I can do any of the stuff we do in CF, but right now I’m most proud of the fact that I stepped on a 20 inch box the other day, unassisted- after almost a year of mental struggle. I still have a long way to go, but I’m a very long way from where I started!

 5. What are your challenges and goals going forward?

Ideally I would love to get better at everything. My next goal, after being able to step on the 20 inch box without struggle, is to get a banded pull-up. Or at least get myself into the  band without being terrified….baby steps.

 6. Has CrossFit inspired you to reach out to others that may need the extra push or confidence booster?

Yes! When I first started this journey last year, I started a blog-  It was a way to keep me accountable and to not quit this time. I’ve had a few people come up to me and tell me that the reason they decided to join RCFBC, was because of one of my posts. I had no idea that I could have that kind of effect on others. I write for myself- to vent and document things, so I can look back when I’m having a bad day and realize how far I’ve come; but if it helps someone else, that’s pretty cool.

I’m constantly telling pretty much everyone I meet that they need to just try CrossFit and they will love it. I’m sure my coworkers have had enough of me and my pictures of Rich Froning all over the department by now!

 7. If you could hang out with Tom Brady for a whole day what would you do together? 🙂

Oh the possibilities…Obviously, we would have to make sure Gisele was busy that day, then we would start with a WOD at RCFBC, he would be required to do it shirtless, followed by breakfast and coffee- also to be completed shirtless. Then we would go over my fantasy football strategy for next year (still shirtless), followed by a movie and snuggles (still shirtless), finished with a delicious dinner that we would cook together & topped off with a nightcap with his teammates!

*This goes for pretty much any celebrity male, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Rich Froning, Dan Bailey…the list goes on and on. Oh and any male that’s not a celebrity and is looking to date a sassy lady like me! Wink Wink!!

Amanda has had quite a journey so far with RCFBC.  Her positivity and welcoming personality inspire us all to work harder to achieve our own goals!  We now know what her dream guy type is and her dream date would be 😉 Hopefully mister right will read this and sweep her off her feet!!  Keep striving for greatness RCFBC. ROCK ON!
