Christy ” Super woman” Driscoll

1. Tell us a little about yourself?

My husband, Bob, and I have been together for over thirty years. We have two teenagers, Bobby and Brooke, and lots of animals!  I graduated from Simmons College with a BA in Finance and Economics, but all these years later have discovered that I love metal smithing!  I have my own boutique business, Metal Girl Designs, where I create custom jewelry.  I have also pursued another dream I didn’t even realize was in me.  I became an EMT this year!!  CrossFit has given me the strength, both physically and mentally, to be prepared for anything!

2. Tell us your CrossFit story (where were you before RCFBC and where are you now?)

I started CrossFit last December in the “old” box.  I remember feeling very unhealthy, had gained weight and truly felt my heart straining.  Sharon encouraged me to try CrossFit.  I had always been a “yo-yo” dieter and tried many different exercise regimes and was the queen of “infomercial” quick fixes, none of which helped.  So I took Sharon’s advice and walked into the “old” box and met Magic Mike.  Mike was immediately welcoming, energized and so supportive!  I remember going through “On Ramp” and was thinking “how the hell am I going to be able to do all this?”  But I was also excited about what my body was going to achieve.  I absolutely do not like to run and I am not too great at overhead squats, but now I actually do not mind running, (thanks Pete Miller for cheering me on and telling me to always keep my head up!), and my overhead squats are so much better and my upper body is getting much stronger!  I love to bench press and to split-jerk too!  An added bonus to all of this is that I have lost 30 pounds and have learned how to properly nourish my body!!

3. What does being part of RCFBC community mean to you?

There are two moments of “On Ramp” that really stand out.  One, was when Mike told us we were to do Box Jump Overs.  Holy $#@!, seriously?!!  But, Jeff Bates stayed with me the whole time and coaxed me over that damn box.  I did it and felt so flippin’ empowered!!  Thank you, Jeff!!!  Two, sealed the deal.  It was a tough WOD, many of us just starting, many of us out of shape, not all of course, but I remember finishing with the burpees segment and thinking I was going to pass out, or even puke!  Then I looked over at Amanda finishing up and her sheer determination made those of us that were still so tired, Hillary, Colleen, and many others, including myself, get down and we ALL finished the WOD TOGETHER!!!!  We cried, we laughed and we high-fived til’ sundown!!! It was the most amazing sense of community I have ever been a part of!  I truly have to thank Sharon and Chris for bringing this amazing way of life to our community and for their unending love and support!  To Magic Mike, our amazing head coach who constantly inspires me, makes me laugh and has become such a great friend.  To Harrison, for your fantastic mobility techniques.  To Kaylee, for your spunk, grit and awesome woman-power!  And to ALL the coaches for your constant support!!  Also, this community has forged some unbelievably strong friendships!  I have met so many wonderful people and felt so much love and support from each of them.  My new found “family” has helped shape my life in ways I never imagined!  Love to you all!!

4. What accomplishments are you most proud of?

I have to say I am most proud of my recent double-under accomplishment during the 14.1 WOD.  Thank you Sharon for pushing me beyond my limits!  Man, did that feel amazing!!

5. What are your challenges and goals going forward?

My goal this year is to lose 20 pounds and be able to do a strict pull-up and T2B!  Also, fluid dubs!!  Oh, and no more shin scars from box jumping!! Ha..ha.., no seriously!  I may have to tattoo my whole left shin to cover the scars!!!

6.  Has being apart of RCFBC changed the way you feel about fitness?

The problem now is that any other fitness workout will never be able to top a CrossFit WOD for me.  CrossFit is empowering!!  Even when my body feels like it is going to give in there is this inner strength that comes out of nowhere and pushes me through.  That is the best badass feeling I have ever had when it comes to fitness!!  I LOVE IT!

7. If you were stuck on an island and could take three items. What would you take?

Water for survival, iPhone for daily travel WOD’s and BACON!!!!

Christy is an AMAZING good hearted person!! She brings a ton of energy and her own sense of humor to the gym everyday! Outside of CrossFit she keeps herself busy and does a very good job of juggling everything. If you haven’t met Christy yet, introduce yourself and get to know our very own Super Woman!
