CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Juniors, and Family WODs are Here!

 

With such a great response to our CrossFit Juniors trial, we have decided to add BOTH a kids AND a juniors program in addition to a family WOD!!  All three start this week.  Further information and FAQs are below.

 

CrossFit Kids (~4/5 yrs. old to 9/10 yrs. old)

Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00PM – 5:30PM

CrossFit Kids is a 30 minute class designed for kids between the ages of 4/5 through 9/10.   We teach them the same functional movements as our adults but in a format that is more effective for kids.  It’s a shorter, high energy environment using games and drills that teach them movements in a way that is so fun they don’t even know they are doing fitness!  And of course, this age group will do all of this in an unloaded (i.e. without weights) environment.

 

CrossFit Juniors (~10/11 yrs. old to ~13/14 yrs. old)

Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00PM – 5:00PM

CrossFit Juniors is more like a typical CrossFit class.  The structure – 1 hour class with warmup, skill, WOD, and after party- is the same but the weights used and scaling options are a little different.  Plus, we like to add in some of the kids games here and there 🙂 This class is designed for those kids that are mature enough to handle PVC pipes and light barbells, but not ready for our teens class, our most intense class.

 

CrossFit Teens (~13/14 yrs. old to ~17/18 yrs. old)

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 4:00PM – 5:00PM

CrossFit Teens is our most intense class and is run exactly like a typical CrossFit class.  As with our regular CrossFit classes, our teens program is scalable for teens of any ability level.  The unique environment of peers leads to a better overall experience for these young adults.

 

Family WODs (Saturdays 10:00AM-10:30AM)

From Day 1 at Reebok CrossFit Bare Cove, we have stressed community as the cornerstone of what we are all about.  We look at everyone as our CrossFit family, so we want to give everyone the opportunity to WOD as a family!  With that in mind, we are pleased to announce family WODs on Saturdays from 10:00AM to 10:30AM.

During this time entire families – parents, spouses, and kids from 4/5yrs old and up – are invited to do a WOD together.  Only one person of the group needs to be a member, so feel free to bring your family as guest.    It will be a similar format to our kids class – 30 minutes with a quick WOD and a fun, family-friendly game.  If you are hoping to hit your PR deadlift this isn’t for you, but if you want to share fitness with your family, this is perfect!

Cost

Family WODs are free for all involved as long as one family member is a member (e.g. full membership, CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Juniors, or CrossFit Teens).

FAQs

I have a child that is on the border of kids and juniors.  Which one should he/she attend?

Since kids develop physically and mentally at a different rate, there is no set age.  This decision is one based on the input of the coaches, parents, and kids.  Some 10 year olds are physically ready for juniors but not mentally ready and vice versa.  On the flip side, some 9 year olds are ready.  The guiding questions to assess readiness are as follows:

  1. Is the child ready physically and mentally to safely use PVC pipes and light weights(eventually)?
  2. Does the child have the attention span and discipline to handle an hour long class?
  3. Does the child want to be with the older kids?

CrossFit teens is a more intense class with better athletes.  That doesn’t mean that weaker or more unexperienced athletes can’t do the teens class, but it does mean they need to be mentally ready for the challenge.  Once again, this decision is one based on the input of the coaches, parents, and kids.  The guiding questions to assess readiness are as follows:

  1. What is the child’s athletic level and experience?
  2. Are they mentally ready to be in a class with higher level athletes and more intensity?
  3. What does the child want to do?

What time are classes?

Kids – 5:00PM – 5:30PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Juniors – 4:00PM – 5:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Teens – 4:00PM – 5:00PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

How do I sign up my child?

Simply come with him/her to the first class and we will get you all taken care of.

Do we need to sign up ahead of time?

We simply ask you to shoot us a note the first time your child is planning to come in so we are expecting you.  If you forget to, no problem just come on by.  After the first time just come in and sign in when you get here.
