February Member of the month: Marisa Cianci
After a short hiatus, member of the month is back! This month’s spans across both boxes! You can find Marisa working out at both RCFBC & SciCoh at any given time! Congratulations, Marisa!
Thank you for your time and for accepting to be our “Member Of the Month.” Before we get into your story, let’s start with a brief introduction… (Age, town, family/kids, occupation, etc.)
I’m 37 years old. I just moved to Cohasset last March to live with my fiancé who grew up here. We’ll be getting married in May. I do actuarial work for pension plans.
When and how did you get started with us?
I started CrossFit last June. Before I moved to Cohasset, I was going to a group training class that I really liked at a gym where I used to live. It had some similar aspects to CrossFit, so when I was looking for a gym to join when I moved here, I thought I would give CrossFit a try. I’m so glad I did!
I don’t have a specific favorite workout, but I like working on deadlifts, squats, thrusters, and now box jumps
Least favorite workout?
Anything with burpees!
What’s the best part about working out with your class?
They keep me going! Everyone is so supportive. The coaches are really helpful and motivating.
What’s the wallpaper on your phone right now?
A picture of the ocean and sand in Costa Rica.
What’s your favorite “cheat” meal?
Probably pizza… and I definitely have a sweet tooth, but there are just too many desserts I love to list!
What’s the last thing you searched for on Google?
If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
I would be a lion. I recently went on a safari in South Africa, and I just thought that they were the coolest animals. The female lions were super affectionate with the other lions in their pride, and they are very protective of their cubs. They are really strong and brave, and know how to stand their ground against other animals. They are also very beautiful animals.
What is one way CrossFit has positively impacted your regular/daily life?
CrossFit has made me stronger, both physically and mentally. It’s a lot easier to carry a bunch of groceries or a 40-pound box of cat litter up a flight of stairs. Mentally, I find myself taking on more challenging tasks by which I usually would have been intimidated. I’m also able to focus more with any kind of challenge. And I do this all with a more positive attitude!
What advice would you give to a new member at RCFBC/SciCoh?
Just keep at it. Show up to class… especially the ones that you don’t want to go to, because those are probably the workouts where you need the most work, and if you never work at it, you’ll never improve. Everything can be scaled, and if you keep at it, you’ll get stronger.
If you could sum up RCFBC/SciCoh in one word, what would it be?
