Wyatt William Mitchell was born July 8, 2012 with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that can create a series of life threatening intestinal, pancreatic, and lung issues. Due to several severe intestinal blockages Wyatt spent over 4 months at Children’s Hospital, underwent 3 major surgeries and spent several weeks in intensive care. Fast forward a little over a year, and he is doing GREAT! He has gained sufficient weight (25th percentile as of last check in), we removed his G-tube (a direct access port to his stomach for food and medicine), and other than the enzyme pills he takes before each meal, he is a happy, healthy, normal 14 month old boy!
There is a chance that other issues develop as Wyatt gets older (specifically in the lungs), but we remain hopeful and are enjoying seeing him thrive. Last July was a tough time for my family, but we will never forget how touched and honored we were to see Wyatt’s WOD posted last July 25th at Reebok CrossFit One. That day and all of your support lifted our spirits and helped get us through some very dark days.
So today when doing this WOD we ask that you dedicate your effort to someone in need of your support. You just never know how much it might mean.
This September 21st is the Reebok Nor’easter to team competition and fundraiser in Rye, NH to benefit The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. If you’d like to compete or make a donation click HERE for more information. Thank you all!
