June Member of the Month: Christine Cannon

RCFBC Member Monday Questions

Thank you for your time and for accepting to be our “Member Monday.” Before we get into your story, let’s start with a brief introduction…(age, town, family/kids, occupation, etc.)

My name is Christine, I am 37 years old and I live in North Weymouth with my husband of 10yrs, and my 3 kids Maria (8) Charlie (6) and Annie (4).  . I am a full-time registered nurse who specializes in wound and ostomy care in the homecare setting (southshore VNA).

What did you do for your health and fitness before you started at RCFBC?

I was an avid morning runner (0430am), I entered a lot of races and have done a few Tough Mudders with my husband

Can you talk about your first exposure to CrossFit here at Reebok CrossFit Bare Cove and the emotions that followed?

I started Crossfit at the end of last Summer with the “New You” ladies.  It took me FOREVER to sign up I was so nervous! I knew NOTHING about crossfit, but wanted to challenge myself, as I was feeling bored, and I didn’t like the way I looked/felt. I wanted to try something that would be so uncomfortable for me, outside of anything I’ve ever done before, because I felt this was what I needed! I remember seeing the members lifting barbells and thinking “Oh shit, what the hell am I getting into”.  (I think I still feel  that way sometimes).   I knew it was something I would need to force myself to keep trying, and keep showing up.  And this is what has kept me going. “Just show up”- Scott Graham “Everyone has their own journey”- Nicci.   So many people have said the smallest things, that have kept me motivated and have meant so much to me 🙂

What is one way CrossFit has positively impacted your regular/daily life?

There are so many, but confidence comes to mind.  I just feel so much stronger physically and mentally in all aspects of my relationships- it just makes me a happier person 🙂

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

There are so many! I enjoy a good, fall on the floor in a pool of sweat workout! I just did Fight Gone Bad for the first and it was GREAT!  I would have to say power cleans are pretty awesome!

What are your 3 LEAST favorite exercises?

Burpees.  Do I need to keep going?  I’m not able to do OHS yet, due to mobility so they are frustrating at the moment and rig movements are hard for me (pullups etc).

What advice would you give to a new member at RCFBC?

“Just show up” and give it your  ALL.  It’s only an hour out of your day!  Everything can be scaled, and it’s ok not to be able to do everything, “everyone has their own journey.”

If you could sum up RCFBC in one word, what would it be? So hard to pick ONE word!
