Matt aka “G”

1. Tell us a little about yourself?

I am 18 years old and a senior in high school. I play football and I am a lacrosse captain, as well as a tutor and work in construction. In my free time I mountain bike and hike. Next year I will be playing lacrosse and studying engineering at Union College.

2. Tell us your CrossFit story (where were you before RCFBC and where are you now?)

Before I came to CrossFit I was struggling to find a workout program that worked for me. I worked out on my own and lifted with the football team but hadn’t seen many results. I attended the very first free trial and after talking to Mike and Chris I decided that CrossFit was right for me. After a few sessions I became addicted, I couldn’t get enough, so I recruited a lot of the football team to join as well and we became the first teens class. Mike has helped me get in better shape than ever before and CrossFit is a major reason why I will be playing college lacrosse next year.

3. What does being part of RCFBC community mean to you?

I love being able to push others and be pushed myself despite differing levels of ability. Whether it is a partner wod, or just a random bystander giving some advice RCFBC has such an amazing community you will always find inspiration, help, and a kick in the butt if you need it (get back on the bar!)

4. What accomplishments are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the incredible increase in stamina and mental toughness I’ve acquired through CrossFit, as well as my ability to do more technical lifts such as snatches which I had never been able to do before.

5. What are your challenges and goals going forward?

I want to use CrossFit to become a dominant college lacrosse player, and I need to get a muscle up!

6. How has CrossFit helped you with football and lacrosse?

CrossFit has helped me in almost every aspect of both football and lacrosse. My strength and stamina has gone through the roof compared to my competition, I’m able to keep pushing at the end of the game when everyone else is exhausted. I’ve gotten much quicker and faster, and by strengthening and stabilizing large muscle groups, working on FUNCTIONAL lifts, and working on mobility I’ve become a much stronger, resilient, and injury resistant player. I wouldn’t be the athlete I am today if I hadn’t chosen to join CrossFit!

7. If you could tell someone about CrossFit what would you say?

I would tell them it’s something you have to experience, a ten minute workout doesn’t seem like much but I can PROMISE you will be on the ground gasping for air by the end. It’s the best workout I’ve ever gotten!

Matt is a great athlete and will continue to get better inside and outside the gym. He brings a ton of energy to the teens class before, during, and after the workout! Keep it up!!!
