May Member of the Month: Andre Callicutt

May’s Member of the month is no other than our own resident Zumba instructor, Andre! We re very lucky to have such a sassy, hardworking member at our box! Thanks for being you, Andre! 

Thank you for your time and for accepting to be our “Member Of the Month.” Before we get into your story, let’s start with a brief introduction…(age, town, family/kids, occupation, etc.)

Stay at home dad / part time Zumba instructor
What did you do for your health and fitness before you started at RCFBC?
I teach Zumba and I’m a cyclist.

Can you talk about your first exposure to CrossFit here at Reebok CrossFit Bare Cove and the emotions that followed?
It’s by far one of the best places I have ever worked out at. When I left class words could not explain how I felt. The workout was miserable but I felt great afterwards and the people are amazing. No egos, no judging, just everyone encouraging everyone to do their best. It was noting like I’ve been around before.

What is one way CrossFit has positively impacted your regular/daily life?
It’s made me so much better all around, not just physically but mentally too. I am definitely in better physical shape now but I also have a clearer mind. Plus I sleep like a baby!

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?
I would say my favorite move has to be the snatch. I remember starting in January and I couldn’t do it with a PVC pipe. I thought I would never be able to do it and now I can. It’s a good feeling. I have a love/hate relationship with double unders.
What are your 3 LEAST favorite exercises?
Burpee box jumps
Wall balls (why so many?!)

What advice would you give to a new member at RCFBC?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The coaches are some of the best people I’ve met inside and out. They love what they do and they love seeing you grow and get better.
If you could sum up RCFBC in one word, what would it be?
