How long have you been doing CrossFit and what made you want to try it?
5 years as of December 26th. I worked less then 200m from a CrossFit gym and decided I needed a community outside of work. I went in to check it out right before we were traveling for Christmas and went in to workout right off the plane when we got back to NC in 2011. Here we are 5 years later. Oh, and I was terribly out of shape and less then athletic.
What is your favorite aspect of being a CrossFit coach?
The community. In NC it quickly became our social group, and being far from our families they became our family. Now you see that community in some capacity everywhere. Whether its on vacation and dropping in at a new box, or seeing someone in Nanos in the airport, or since we moved back to MA. The crossfit thing is something all crossfitters get and that community is a natural thing that is truly amazing.
What is the most frustrating aspect of being a CrossFit coach?
Trying to explain things to people in a way they understand. One coach can say the same exact thing as me and suddenly it clicks for that person. Its all about making it click and sometimes its hard to make that happen for everyone (which is why we have such different coaches).
What advice would you give to someone wanting to try CrossFit for the first time?
Walk in the door, do your best, and come back tomorrow.
What are some of your favorite activities outside the gym?
Cooking, being with my awesome family (including the crazy little man), traveling, reading, and just living life trying all sorts of new things.
What’s your favorite holiday?
Christmas now that we have the little man and he’s getting super into it this year!
Who is your favorite CrossFit athlete and why?
Jason Khalipa. I think he’s nothing short of a rockstar and he’s amazingly humble. He has shown to be strong inside and outside the gym and is so deeply routed in his family.

Deadlift, sit-ups, clean and jerk.

What is the thing that you HATE to mobilize?
Shoulders and traps.
You’re on a deserted island and can only have three things… What would they be and why?
Kindle for reading and something to do, sunblock because nobody wants to be a lobster, and my family to keep it lively.
