How long have you been doing CrossFit and what made you want to try it?

The Reebok commercials drew me in and it has been 4 years now doing Crossfit in a actual named CrossFit gym. The previous year I was working with a trainer that also did CrossFit at CF781 and he would put me through some of the benchmark workouts, but it wasn’t as intense. I would toss up to a lack of proper equipment.

What is your favorite aspect of being a CrossFit coach?

Education no brainer Always trying to get better, always trying to improve my verbal or tactile cues, experimenting with warm ups, learning about new mobility movements as a well as progressions. I want to be the best I can at my craft and coaching crossfit requires the desire to always be learning. Members will never know how many hours you took to prepare for class, but they will know immediately if you didn’t prepare.

What is the most frustrating aspect of being a CrossFit coach?

The general perception of CrossFit by outside entities who may have never taken part in a CrossFit function, that is frustrating. It would be like going to an Italian restaurant, having a bad meal, then saying all Italian restaurants are bad. I also get frustrated when members leave, regardless of the situation, this is a family.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to try CrossFit for the first time?

Maybe this statement is geared more towards the older demographic, but I believe you can alter this same message in many ways to address all age groups.  The majority of people that end up in assisted living is related to the fact that they don’t have the strength to stand up or sit down on a toilet. This fitness regimen will bring back the inner child in you.

What are some of your favorite activities outside the gym?

Wait we have activities outside the GYM? I love the beach, golf (but only 9 holes, I lose too many balls). I really want to travel more this coming year.

What’s your favorite holiday?

Christmas, especially after this year when my presents included a daughter, son in law, and three grandchildren. You can ask me in person how that happened.

Who is your favorite CrossFit athlete and why?

I have two Julie Foucher and Jared Davis,

Julie because she tore her Achilles in the regionals and still participated in the final event while wearing a boot. She is also a competitive athlete going through the trials and tribulations of medical school.

JD because he is the only CrossFit games athlete I know personally and I have always admired how humble he was.

  Favorite movement (s):

Anything core related, sit-ups, planks, GHD…Double unders, cleans, front squats and I really like gymnastics although I’m not very good at it yet

Least favorite movement (s):

Hands down. .Overhead squat and Oh Yeah pistol

What is the thing that you HATE to mobilize?

I actually love to mobilize

You’re on a deserted island and can only have three things… What would they be and why?

The house boat from the movie entourage.

A genie to grant me one wish each day ( this way I can bring my family at anytime)

My brother in law Greg. He can fix anything, survive anything and he would keep me entertained
