Mike Lantosca “BIG Mike”

1. Tell us a little about yourself?

Theres not much to say really, I’m basically just a useless teenager. I am sixteen years old and going to be a sophomore at Cohasset High School. I have lived in Cohasset my entire life. I am truly obsessed with music and play every instrument I can get my hands on.

2. Tell us your CrossFit story (where were you before RCFBC and where are you now?)

Before joining RCFBC I had tried several different gyms just to try and stay in shape. The last one I had belonged to was truly frustrating because the classes I participated in were pretty much just training for all the sports that I didn’t play, half the class was stretching, and the other half was just shuffling around the turf or something like that. After quitting those classes and doing absolutely nothing for about six months, I joined RCFBC and immediately saw that it was something that was different and challenging. By about the third Wod, I had both fallen in love with this way of exercising, and accepted a challenge of sorts that I needed to get in shape. For me, CrossFit has filled “the void” of not playing organized sports for much of the year.

3. What does being part of RCFBC community mean to you?

 To me, the sense of community here is one thing that sets RCFBC apart from any other gyms. From day one the people here, both members and coaches, have been great, always supportive and helpful. It’s great to belong to a gym where many people know me by name. The sense of community here is definitely one of my favorite things about RCFBC.

4. What accomplishments are you most proud of?

There aren’t really any profound single accomplishments that come to mind. Instead, I am most proud of the countless smaller things that I have achieved since starting CrossFit in January. This includes improving different movements, increasing PRs, and being able really participate in challenging Wods, sometimes even being able to do them RX. 

5. What are your challenges and goals going forward?

I’m looking to improve on absolutely everything that I do at CrossFit, theres no movement that I don’t need a lot of work on. If I had to choose, I really want to be able to do HSPU and muscle ups because those two movements require all of the upper body strength that I don’t have yet. I would love to be able to compete in different events both at Bare Cove and elsewhere.

6.  If you could describe CrossFit in one word what would it be?  

Thebestwayofworkingout! 

 

I wish we had a video of Big Mike’s first couple of months at RCFBC because what an amazing improvement he has made in the short period of time he’s been doing CrossFit. He is an athlete and great addition to the teens class. He brings the “GO” every time he steps foot into the gym.  It’s pretty awesome that he’s not only good at CrossFit but a natural when it comes to playing different instruments…. Mike my friend, you are far from a useless teenager !!!
